It seems that a mediocre 18-27 start to the season isn’t bad enough for the Memphis Grizzlies. Now the club is on the verge of trading star guard Ja Morant, according to reports.

A deal would end a tumultuous seven-year run for Morant, the 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year.

He is in the third season of a five-year, $197.2 million contract, but it appears team leadership has soured on the Murray State ballhandler, officially entertaining trade offers for the 26-year-old guard. With that in mind, the team at preprod.bookies.com, as part of our NBA betting insight, broke down possible Ja Morant next team odds.

Where Ja Morant Might End Up

Given Morant’s long-running status on the Grizzlies’ trade block, it seems clear that NBA general managers aren’t buying what Memphis’ selling, as the 26-year-old has seen his minutes per game drop from 30.4 last year to 28.5 this season.

Morant’s on-court productivity when he’s out there hasn’t been great, either, with a drop in points (19.5, from 23.2), field goals (41.0% from 45.4%) and three-point percentage (23.5% from 30.9%).

Still, Morant’s star power could inspire one NBA GM to take a swing on the Rookie of the Year winner, with a mix of contenders and pretenders likely to entertain the thought. Hence we list the Sacramento Kings (+350), Miami Heat (+450), San Antonio Spurs (+600), T'Wolves (+650) and the Milwaukee Bucks (+800) as the most likely candidates. Some clubs, like the Spurs and maybe even Heat, have NBA Finals aspirations. Others, like the Kings, would make a move more with an eye to 2027 and beyond.

A major tripping point when it comes to Morant’s future is the immense salary cap hit that is owed his way, with the veteran carrying a $39.4 million number this year, along with totals of $42.1 million and $44.886 million over the next two years.

Per the team at Spotrac.com, the Kings (-$56.2 million), Timberwolves ($-82.7 million) and Bucks (-$21.7 million) are all in the red, cap wise, which could also trip up any deal for Morant in the coming weeks.

Lakers, Heat Could Be In Play For Morant

What we do know is that given Morant’s talent and star power, it seems wise to bet that he’ll be in high demand ahead of next month’s trade deadline, with longshots like the Los Angeles Lakers (+900) and Toronto Raptors (+1400) being the other teams on our odds board right now.

Given Morant’s continued lack of playing time and the Grizzlies currently well out of the NBA’s play-in round with roughly half the season left to play, it seems like a change might be what’s best for all involved.

One way or another, it looks like a divorce is coming for Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, with the latest trade speculation whirling around Memphis being the most recent chapter in a saga that’s full of drama in the Bluff City.
