Rory McIlroy has won The Masters in consecutive years, becoming the fourth golfer to win back-to-back at Augusta National. That raises one golf betting question already for 2027: Can McIlroy pull off a rare three-peat at a men’s golf Grand Slam?

Rory McIlroy 2027 Masters Odds

Already at BetMGM Sportsbook and other operators, odds are up for the 2027 Masters. At BetMGM, two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler is the favorite for next year’s event at Augusta National with +450 odds, followed by McIlroy at +600. They’re the only two at better than +1000 odds; Bryson DeChambeau and 2023 winner Jon Rahm are next at +1400 odds.

McIlroy became the fourth back-to-back winner at golf’s first major of the year, following in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus (1965-66), Nick Faldo (1989-90) and Tiger Woods (2001-02).

McIlroy’s 12-under total of 276 was one shot better than Scheffler, who won the event in 2022 and 2024. Had McIlroy ended up at 277, he would have wound up in a playoff, just as he did last year when his 277 total over four rounds earned a playoff spot against Justin Rose. In that playoff, McIlroy claimed the title with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

McIlroy won the 2026 Masters despite ranking 52nd for the week in driving accuracy. He was first in driving distance and 15th in scrambling, according to datagolf.com stats.

McIlroy at Other Majors

Last year, McIlroy ended an 11-year wait between major titles and became the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam (wins at The Masters, U.S. Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship). One year on, the pressure to complete the career Slam is well behind the Northern Irishman and he can focus on bumping up his total of six career major wins.

He is now tied for 12th in all-time major professional victories, alongside Faldo, Lee Trevino and Phil Mickelson. The next major is the PGA Championship, May 14-17 at Aronimink Gold Club in Newton Square, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. Like the 2027 Masters, Scheffler is the favorite, with +380 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook, followed by McIlroy at +650.

Three-Peat Attempt History

Out of the 16 repeat winners that have tried to capture the same major three years in a row, only one has succeeded: Peter Thomson at The Open Championship (the British Open) from 1954-56.

Aside from Thomson, five others who tried to win three in a row at a single major finished in the top 10.

In more modern times, the closest anybody has come was Brooks Koepka at the 2019 U.S. Open. Koepka, who won the tournament in 2017 at Erin Hills and 2018 at Shinnecock Hills, finished second in his three-peat bid. He shot 10-under 274 over four rounds, three strokes behind winner Gary Woodland, at Pebble Beach.

Can McIlroy make more history at the 2027 Masters and duplicate a major feat that has not been done in more than 70 years? That will be the big question for customers at sports betting apps going into next year’s event.
