Still, the smart money remains on Tampa bringing Evans back. If Evans does hit NFL free agency, the appeal is obvious. Kansas City loves adding weapons for Patrick Mahomes in his championship window. Baltimore could use another proven target for Lamar Jackson. Buffalo needs help keeping pace in the AFC arms race.

Plus the Patriots, whose rebuild took off earlier than expected with a surprise Super Bowl appearance this past season, might see value in pairing Evans with Drake Maye.

But here's the thing about Mike Evans: he's Tampa Bay through and through. Twelve years in one uniform. Six Pro Bowls. A Super Bowl ring. His name plastered all over the franchise record books. Walking away from that for a one-year mercenary gig? It doesn't quite fit the narrative.
