Arizona is another step closer to its goal of sports betting being fully operational for this upcoming NFL season.

The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) held three virtual open comment sessions Wednesday morning covering the second draft of event wagering, fantasy sports and mobile pari-mutuel wagering rules.

Each speaker had two minutes to comment on the Arizona sports betting rules with the entire set of sessions lasting more than 55 minutes.

What Was Discussed

Sessions were broken down into four categories: policy rules including number of skins, licensing/privilege fees and licensing allocation; internal controls and league data; systems/platforms, integrity/security assessments, events/wagers and player accounts; promotions/bonuses, accounting/auditing and player disputes.

A total of 12 representatives provided comments, feedback and suggestions including the Arizona Coyotes, Arizona Diamondbacks, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, Major League Baseball, BetMGM Sportsbook, among other sportsbooks, San Carlos Apache Tribe, Sportradar and Penn Interactive.

What’s Next?

Written public comments will be accepted via the ADG’s website until 11:59 p.m. PT Wednesday. A licensing allocation proposal will be presented shortly thereafter, but no specific time/date has been set.

To take advantage of NFL betting, Arizona plans to launch sports betting on Sept. 9, the day the league kicks off its 2021 season with the Dallas Cowboys visiting the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Arizona Cardinals open their 2021 season in Nashville against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 12.
