Bryony Frost Biography
Born in Buckfastleigh, Devon, Bryony Frost was always destined to be involved in the jump racing game. Her father, Jimmy Frost, is a trainer and former jockey who won the 1989 Grand National on Little Polvier, whilst her brother, Hadden, was also a successful jockey and has a Cheltenham Festival winner to his name.
Like many jockeys, Frost learned her craft on the Pony Racing circuit before eventually moving into the point-to-point field, where she tackled jumps for the first time. She proved to be a natural riding horses over the obstacles, catching the eye of top trainer, Paul Nicholls, who started to use her on some of his horses on the track.
Bryony recorded the first major victory of her career when winning the 2017 Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham, planting herself firmly into the limelight and giving her the confidence to turn professional just a few months later.
One thing that Bryony Frost has become famous for is her ability to form successful partnerships with certain horses throughout their careers. The first of these close bonds came with the ultra-consistent Black Corton.
Black Corton provided Bryony with her first win as a conditional jockey, and that was the start of a five-race unbeaten run that would have left visitors of the best horse racing betting sites customers pretty happy. On Boxing Day of the same year, Black Corton provided Frost with her first Grade 1 win in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton. Eight of the horse’s nine career victories came with Bryony Frost in the saddle.
Three days prior to her first Grade 1 success, Frost started another partnership with a horse that would provide the leading jockey with many more memorable days in the future. Frodon, finished second at Ascot on that occasion, but after subsequently winning four of their next nine races, horse and jockey headed to the Cheltenham Festival to take a shot at the Ryanair Chase. With arguably the gamest performance of the week, Frodon and Frost battled up the hill to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths. It was another unforgettable moment in the young jockey’s career, as she became the first woman rider to win a Grade 1 at the festival.
More history was made by the pair on Boxing Day 2020, when Frost became the first female rider to win the prestigious King George VI Chase at Kempton.
