Mighty Potter is probably the most talented and exciting horse under the care of Gordon Elliott at the moment. As such, the Caldwell Construction-owned six-year-old is a short-priced ante-post favourite for this year’s Turners Novices' Chase. A Grade 1-winning hurdler, Mighty Potter has yet to be extended in his three starts over fences and he is on the road to becoming a horse with a huge future.
Another young chaser that is taking the racing world by storm is the so-far unbeaten, Gerri Colombe. The favourite at betting apps for this season’s Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, the exciting seven-year-old has two bumper wins, two hurdle wins and three chase wins to his name, and frighteningly for his opponents, he seems to be still improving over the larger obstacles.
Another Elliott chaser that is definitely worth following is the ultra-consistent, Conflated. This year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup contender has hardly run a bad race in his career to date and will head to Cheltenham in top form after an easy victory in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown last time out.

Mighty Potter and Gerri Colombe are likely to be Gordon Elliott’s best chances of winners at Cheltenham 2023, and although Conflated is a very talented horse, he may be running for just a place in the Gold Cup.
Elsewhere at the festival, Elliott has a plethora of horses entered across all 28 races of the week. Of course, Elliott has had a strong association with the quirky Cross Country Chase in recent years, and he is again responsible for two of the favourites for the race in last year’s winner, Delta Work, and last year’s Gold Cup fourth, Galvin.
Progressive young chaser, The Goffer, runs in the Ultima Handicap, while Queens Brook will be looking to go one better than 12 months ago in the Mares’ Hurdle.
Teahupoo has a strong chance in a wide-open Stayers’ Hurdle now that his stamina has been proven, while Elliott’s pair of talented novice hurdlers, American Mike and Three Card Brag, should also hold their own in whichever race their trainer decides to run them in.

Gordon Elliott’s name is now famous around the world among Aintree Grand National fans. Elliott’s young training career took off thanks to Silver Birch’s National win back in 2007, making him the youngest trainer to win the race at the age of 29.
In recent years, it has been two-time winner Tiger Roll that has put Elliott back into the Grand National spotlight, and in 2023 he will be hoping for another one of his horses to land the Aintree highlight.
Elliott has a huge amount of entries for this year’s renewal, and a lot of the decisions on which ones will run will come down to their performances at Cheltenham. One horse that is sure to line up in April, however, is last season’s third-placed finisher Delta Work.

Gordon Elliott Biography
Gordon Elliott’s rise to the top table of the racing world had an unusual start. Born on the 2nd March 1978 in Co Meath in Ireland, Elliott’s family had no connection to the equine world, but a young Gordon somehow found his way into horseracing.
Having worked for shrewd Irish trainer, Tony Martin, Elliott became an accomplished amateur rider in his late teens and earlier 20s. Despite his success in the saddle, Elliott’s focus had always been on eventually becoming a trainer, and he would find his way to the best trainer in Britain and Ireland at that time, Martin Pipe.
He could not have wished for a better teacher of the training world and soaked in all of the expert knowledge and wisdom of the legendary English trainer, something that would stand him in good stead for his future endeavours.
Elliott would eventually make the brave step to begin his training career at the age of 28, moving back to his home in Meath and starting his journey with just a handful of horses under his care.
Despite having yet to register a winner in Ireland, Elliott hit the headlines across the water when training the former Paul Nicholls trained, Silver Birch, to win the Grand National in 2007. At the age of 29, Elliott became the youngest trainer to win the Aintree highlight.
Four years later Elliott would begin what would become a very successful association with the Cheltenham Festival, with Chicago Grey providing him with his first winner at the highlight of the National Hunt world.
His training exploits were now beginning to attract the attention of the biggest owners in the industry including Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud operation. In 2016, Elliott would provide the Ryanair tycoon with the ultimate prize, with Don Cossack winning the Gold Cup under Bryan Cooper.
The following year he has crowned Champion Trainer at Cheltenham and has since gone on to win 34 races, with more strong chances set to line up in 2023.
Probably the greatest training feat for Elliott came when he guided the now world-famous, Tiger Roll, to back-to-back victories in the Grand National, a race that began it all for the Irish trainer in 2023.
